STERLING: Job Placement With A Personal Touch.......
Sterling
Personnel Service in Hayward fills a unique niche in the personnel
arena by offering specialized service and attention to the human element of the industry,
for small and medium size companies, companies who typically use a personnel
service only a few times a year and for companies who have ongoing temporary or
direct hire needs.
Sterling's
success was nothing short of phenomenal. Ute Julson and Marilyn Gregg opened
their doors in 1995. With just the two of them, their first year's sales totaled
$1 million. The rate of growth for Sterling was so fast and so great that both
Julson and Gregg had to pinch themselves occasionally to make sure they were not
dreaming.
Julson
and Gregg both came from careers with large personnel services who
typically seek nationwide contracts, which utilize several hundred temporaries
at each location. They saw the smaller client services get left out in the cold
because of the tremendous service demands the large contracts required. The
clients with minimal temporary usage, who previously had been considered the
"bread and butter" of the industry, were put in the position to seek out
a service that could fulfill their needs by providing them with good staffing
services.
These
large, service intensive contracts also took a toll on the candidates
who needed assistance in defining and seeking a career path, or those who wanted
or needed to make career changes. Sterling was born to take care of these needs
and assist candidates in their job transition. Sterling values its loyal
candidates and works hard to give back some of the success they bring to the
company. This special attention to their candidates transfers to satisfied
clients because so much attention is given to making a perfect match.
More
unique than its strong commitment to serving the individual is that
Sterling has no outside salespeople. Sterling works almost exclusively through
referrals from both clients and candidates. Sterling is proud of its service
record and of the repeat business the extra attention to detail earns when it
comes to staffing.
Sterling has not
been exempt from change. Julson fell ill and passed away in 2002, causing some
restructuring. A replacement for their dear friend, Ute, was never considered.
She is irreplaceable in their eyes. Gregg's husband, Bob, was pulled in from
retirement to handle the operations end of the business. Recruiter and right
hand to Gregg, Dave Landreth, who was hand picked and personally trained by
Julson and Gregg in 1997, remains with the company. "Some things never
change," says Gregg. "We believe in the way we do business and we
know what good service means." Sterling found a successful niche that
serves, not the masses, but those who seek an individualized approach to
staffing. Their philosophy is not that bigger is better, but that the individual
is still the most important.
